Ludington's Oriole Foundation
Thank you for your interest in the Oriole Foundation. The Oriole Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established December 2003 to enrich the Ludington Area School District’s tradition of excellence. Our mission is to raise public support for innovative programs and activities sponsored by the school district, enhance and strengthen the education of all individuals and groups within the school district, find resources to assist the development of exceptional educational programs not normally funded through regular fiscal resources, and fill the unique educational needs of our community.
The Oriole Foundation awards grants to Ludington teachers in two cycles, one each in spring and fall. Teachers have the opportunity to apply for grants to cover projects where state funding has not kept pace with the cost of educating today’s students. Teachers have submitted grants for items such as flexible seating, scientific equipment to augment the Technology Bond initiative and coding robots to expand the coding for kids clubs.
The foundation held its first signature event in October of 2016, Dancing with the Local Stars (see summary below) and the Pennies From Heaven Foundation graciously matched all monies raised at that event for a grand total of nearly $280,000 raised for the Oriole Foundation.
We are so fortunate to belong to such a generous community that values education. Please consider a gift to the Oriole Foundation if your alumni group has an event, when you are considering estate planning or would like to contribute to support our mission.
Dancing with the local Stars
The Oriole Foundation and Ludington Area Schools would like to thank the sponsors, dancers, coaches, judges, volunteers, and community for their generous support of our Dancing with the Local Stars event this fall. We would also like to share our gratitude for the generosity of the Pennies from Heaven Foundation for the matching funds they provided. This event raised approximately $140,000 and with the match will be doubled to $280,000.
Mr. & Mrs. Yogendra and Rani Rahangdale, former owners of Whitehall Industries, donated $25,000 to Ludington Area School District to create a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Fund and when they heard about the match, made the donation through the Oriole Foundation. The STEM fund will be established and will begin with double the funds thanks to the generosity of the Pennies from Heaven Foundation. The Jack and Marie Cronenwett Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation for Mason County was transferred to the Oriole Foundation to achieve the match thanks to the generosity of Daryl and Sue Peterson and Jack and Debra Cronenwett. The support for the Oriole Foundation will help provide additional educational opportunities for students at Ludington Area Schools for years to come. The students are our true stars. A similar event is planned for October21, 2017.
